Just Aimee | Lisburn Child Photographer

A lot of times when you are a photographer you get caught up on striving for perfection. You always want the perfect light, the perfect expression, the perfect picture. Because of this need for perfection, we as photographers, sometimes forget to take shots of the every day. To help us remember these important shots of real life, a group of photographers that I am involved with have decided to start a little blog series called “The Simple Things.” Each month we will shoot one of those simple moments in our lives that we have been neglecting with our cameras. At the end of the month we will make a blog post and share our stories. At the bottom of the post we will share a link to another photographer in the group so you can read her story. Then at the bottom of her post she will share the link to another talented photographer, and the circle goes on and on.

Keeping it simple this month, well and truly simple.  Aimee turned 6 last week.  It is freaking me out very much how grown up she seems to have got, like, overnight.  She has lost 2 of her front teeth, got her first proper camera, and has a notebook in which she writes pretty much every single thing she does all day.  In proper writing, not baby writing any more, she can write within the lines.  She is not a baby any more.  At 6, maybe I am just a little late in noticing this, but I honestly am feeling there is suddenly no baby left in her.  It’s very bittersweet, as I know all parents will understand.  But this project is about capturing our own lives, and about simplicity.  So this month I made the effort to just capture one single plain and simple portrait of my 6 year old.  Like a portrait I would take for a client, I wanted to make the effort to make time to do this for myself.

And I know what you mean about the age of 6. My youngest is 6 – almost 7 – and it is so sad how much of the baby has left her. It just happens way too fast, doesn’t it?ReplyCancel
