A lot of times when you are a photographer you get caught up on striving for perfection. You always want the perfect light, the perfect expression, the perfect picture. Because of this need for perfection, we as photographers, sometimes forget to take shots of the every day. To help us remember these important shots of real life, a group of photographers that I am involved with have decided to start a little blog series called “The Simple Things.” Each month we will shoot one of those simple moments in our lives that we have been neglecting with our cameras. At the end of the month we will make a blog post and share our stories. At the bottom of the post we will share a link to another photographer in the group so you can read her story. Then at the bottom of her post she will share the link to another talented photographer, and the circle goes on and on.
OK, so I am not sure my contribution for The Simple Things for February really fits with the theme…but it’s what February is all about for us as a family, so I just couldn’t get my head around writing about or photographing anything else. February 16th, 2005, our first son, Samuel, was born. He never took a breath. Since then we have been blessed with 4 wonderful kids……and this series of shots simply records what we do each year to remember our little angel. He would have been 7 this year.
These are far from perfect shots, and please also excuse any snot I may have missed in photoshop! We all had the flu….it was a rough day.
“They say there is a reason,
They say that time will heal,
But neither time nor reason,
Will change the way I feel,
For no-one knows the heartache,
That lies behind our smiles,
No-one knows how many times,
We have broken down and cried,
We want to tell you something,
So there won’t be any doubt,
You’re so wonderful to think of,
But so hard to be without”
Thank you for viewing my Simple Things post! Now check out fellow photographer Kris Kris Photography to see her post for February!
